The City of Soledad recognized October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a resolution approved by the City Council on Wednesday, Oct. 7.
The City Council also presented a proclamation to the Soledad Community Health Care District and Soledad Medical Clinic, a recognition accepted by Brian Weaver.
Weaver emphasized the importance of breast cancer awareness, honoring those affected, and encouraged eligible community members to prioritize routine screenings.
“We honor those facing breast cancer, survivors and the loved ones we have lost. Early detection matters,” he said. “We urge everyone to encourage a loved one to schedule a mammogram when eligible and speak to a healthcare provider promptly about any concerning breast changes.”
The Soledad Community Health Care District is partnering with Central California Alliance for Health (CCAH) and Aliena to bring mobile 2-D digital mammography services to Soledad to improve access to preventive health care. The district is now accepting appointments for its second monthly mobile mammography date, Friday, Oct. 23.
The unit can serve up to 45 patients per visit, according to district spokesperson Adriana Gonzalez. Officials are working to spread the word and get people to sign up, after the first monthly mobile unit visit on Friday, Sept. 23 had many vacancies.
“We screened 23 women, including three walk-ins,” Gonzalez says. “We had 33 scheduled patients but 13 patients did not attend."
Women ages 40-74 are encouraged to make an appointment for upcoming Friday dates of Oct. 23, Nov. 20 or Dec. 18.
Patients who receive their primary health coverage through CCAH may qualify for a $50 gift card, provided all program eligibility requirements are met. (Additional eligibility information is available through CCAH.)
